[Asia Economy Reporter Bu Aeri] Toss Place, which was recently embroiled in controversy over the collection of credit card merchant information, announced on the 8th that it will indefinitely suspend its merchant management program service.
Toss Place is a company that manufactures and supplies offline merchant payment terminals. VAN agencies enter into consignment contracts with Toss Place, which distributes and manages the payment terminals used by merchants.
'Toss Store Partner' provided by Toss Place is a program for VAN agencies to manage merchants.
However, controversy arose recently when allegations were raised that Toss Place collected personal information such as the merchant owner's name, business registration number, and phone number without consent while signing service terms with about 100 VAN agencies.
Lee Bok-hyun, Governor of the Financial Supervisory Service, also mentioned to reporters the day before regarding this matter, "I have requested the responsible department to investigate how the scraping method was operated."
Toss Place stated, "All information collected for consignment contracts with VAN agencies is not used anywhere within any Toss affiliate," adding, "It is used solely for the purpose of integrated management of VAN agencies' merchants."
They added, "Regardless of the original intent of the service, we have decided to indefinitely suspend the service as a preliminary measure due to the controversy."
