[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] Special programs operated at three parks, including World Cup Park and Seonyudo Park, will continue during the Chuseok holiday period.

At Jangseung Madang in World Cup Park during Chuseok, programs full of the holiday atmosphere such as folk games open to everyone, crafts, and full moon observation will be offered.

On the 10th and 11th, during the two days of the Chuseok holiday, the ‘Folk Games Yard’ where anyone can enjoy traditional games on-site will be held. The playground, which allows participation without any limit on the number of people and on-site registration, offers traditional games that anyone can easily enjoy, such as Yutnori, Tuho throwing, Jegichagi, top spinning, and Chamgonnunori, allowing free experience.

During the same period, participants can also make Chuseok-related crafts. On the 10th, you can make ‘Hanji Wish Lanterns’ where you write your wishes and hang them, and ‘Olbyeojumeoni’ (rice ear pouches), which were hung on pillars or gates to pray for a good harvest by putting ears of newly harvested grains inside. On the 11th, there will be a time to make traditional games such as ‘Wonbanpaengi’ (disc spinning top) and ‘Hanji Bokjumeoni’ (traditional paper lucky pouches), allowing children familiar with smartphone games to enjoy a different kind of fun and learn traditions, making it a meaningful holiday. Up to 200 people can participate on a first-come, first-served basis through on-site registration.

During the Chuseok night, the ‘Full Moon of World Cup Park’ program, which anyone can participate in on-site, will also be held. This program allows participants to observe the Chuseok full moon with an astronomical telescope alongside an astronomy guide, and also observe Saturn, Jupiter, and constellations.

Seonyudo Park is an eco-friendly ecological park that reutilizes the Seonyu Water Purification Plant facilities and offers diverse enjoyment such as the Hangang History Museum, where you can see the history of the Han River and its flora and fauna at a glance, a water purification park, the Garden of Time, and an aquatic botanical garden. Various events themed around circus performances will also be held at the Culture Depot during the Chuseok period.

From the 10th to the 12th, special traditional Chuseok games enjoyed by the Han River will be held at Seonyudo Park. Anyone can participate on-site without prior application and enjoy the cool early autumn atmosphere of Seonyudo Park. At the Culture Depot, various special events such as circus experiences hosted by the Seoul Foundation for Arts and Culture, street art X circus exhibitions, circus film screenings, and the Circus Village will be held for four days during the Chuseok holiday.

Lee Yong-nam, Director of the Western Park Leisure Center, said, “We have prepared various programs that all park visitors can enjoy together to celebrate Chuseok, the nation’s traditional holiday,” adding, “We hope that citizens, who have had a hard time for a long time due to COVID-19, will find health and vitality through the park and have a rich Hangawi.”
