Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Union (EU) Commission, announced on the 7th (local time) that she will propose the introduction of a price cap on Russian natural gas to EU member states.
At a press conference, President von der Leyen said, "(Russian President Vladimir Putin) is using this money to wage a heinous war against Ukraine," adding, "The goal is very clear. We must cut off Russia's revenue."
Separately, she also stated that she will propose measures to limit the profit levels of nuclear and renewable energy companies, which have recorded significant sales due to the surge in electricity prices following the Ukraine war.
