[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] Pukyong National University was recently selected as a “2023?2025 Korea-Japan Joint Higher Education Student Exchange Program Host University” by the National Institute for International Education under the Ministry of Education.
The program aims to provide Japanese students with opportunities to study at Korean universities to enhance their understanding of Korea and nurture them as pro-Korean talents.
Pukyong National University, which has the largest number of international students in the Busan area, has established international academic exchange agreements and cooperated with 37 prestigious Japanese universities including Kyoto University, Tohoku University, Hokkaido University, and Tsukuba University.
With this program selection, the university will expand exchanges by additionally attracting 40 outstanding Japanese students annually.
Currently, Japanese students studying at Pukyong National University rank third in number among 65 countries, following China and Vietnam.
Accordingly, starting next year, Pukyong National University will operate master’s and doctoral degree programs, a one-year undergraduate course, and a Korean language preparatory course, selecting excellent Japanese scholarship students and supporting Korean language education, tuition, living expenses, insurance fees, and airfare.
Following the program selection, Pukyong National University plans to fully resume cultural exchange events such as the Asakura Citizen Festival and Tsushima Homestay, which had been suspended since 2019 due to COVID-19.
Since 1996, Pukyong National University has dispatched 332 students to the Asakura Citizen Festival in Fukuoka Prefecture, one of Japan’s representative regional festivals, upon invitation from Asakura City, until 2019.
From 2005 to 2019, 186 students were sent to the Tsushima Homestay program in Tsushima City, Nagasaki Prefecture, upon invitation.
Prior to this program, Pukyong National University was also selected as a 2023?2025 Government Scholarship Program Host University for foreign degree students, recognized as an excellent educational institution for international students.
