If You Regret the Chuseok Weekend... Await the Longest 10-Day Golden Holiday in 2044

If You Regret the Chuseok Weekend... Await the Longest 10-Day Golden Holiday in 2044 In 2044, the longest holiday is expected to be 10 days. Photo by Song Hyundo, Asia Economy intern reporter.

[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Juhyung, Intern Reporter Song Hyundo] As the Chuseok holiday starting from September 8 lasts only four days including the weekend, leaving citizens disappointed, the 2044 calendar is attracting netizens' attention. This is because it is expected to have a golden holiday of about ten days, including Chuseok and several statutory holidays.

In October 2044, a long vacation begins from the very first day. October 1st of that year falls on a Saturday. After the weekend, Monday the 3rd is National Foundation Day (Gaecheonjeol), followed immediately by the Chuseok holiday continuing until Thursday the 6th. Three days later, on Sunday the 9th, is Hangeul Day, and according to the substitute holiday system, the next day, the 10th, is a substitute holiday. Thus, a bridge holiday extends from the 1st to the 10th.

Netizens who read this post showed enthusiastic reactions such as "It seems possible to go on an overseas trip," and "I will definitely survive until 2044." On the other hand, some expressed disappointment, saying, "2044 is too far away. I want to rest right now," and "By then, I will probably be retired, so what meaning does a vacation have?"

For those who find it hard to wait until 2044, it is worth looking forward to 2025, three years from now. That year also has the potential for a ten-day golden holiday.

In 2025, National Foundation Day on October 3rd falls on a Friday, followed by the Chuseok holiday from Sunday to Tuesday, the 5th to the 7th, and Hangeul Day on the 9th. Assuming that Sunday the 5th is designated as a substitute holiday on the 8th, excluding the weekday the 10th, a total of nine days of holidays continue from the 3rd to the 12th.

There is also a long holiday in 2028. That year, Chuseok and National Foundation Day coincide on October 3rd, and if the 5th is designated as a substitute holiday, the holiday can continue consecutively until Hangeul Day on the 9th. In this case, a golden holiday is completed from the weekend of September 30th to October 9th, skipping Friday the 6th.

Meanwhile, the reason why the golden holiday several years later has become a hot topic again seems to be the disappointment over this year’s relatively short holiday period.

However, the total number of holidays including public holidays and weekends this year is 118 days, about five days more than usual. Also, the year 2044, which includes a golden holiday of about ten days, has a total of 115 holidays, which is actually three days fewer than this year.
