Sharing Songpyeon for Chuseok with Low-Income Elderly Spending Chuseok Alone
[Gurye=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yuk Miseok] Jeollanam-do Gurye-gun (Governor Kim Sunho) announced that from the 1st to the 5th of this month, they personally delivered songpyeon to 350 households of elderly living alone and low-income seniors to express their neighborly love in celebration of the Chuseok holiday.
The songpyeon delivered this time holds even greater significance as it was shared with elderly households who cannot be with their families during Chuseok, the nation's biggest traditional holiday.
A resident living alone in Sinchon Village, Gurye-eup, said, "When the holiday approaches, I feel empty and lonely, but I am grateful that they brought songpyeon and warmly kept me company. This Chuseok will be a happier holiday than ever."
Kim Sunho, Governor of Gurye-gun, said, "As we are going through difficult times due to the ongoing spread of COVID-19 and rising prices, I hope this songpyeon sharing will be a small but warm gift to the elderly who have to spend Chuseok alone."
Meanwhile, Gurye-gun leads efforts to create a prosperous local community not only through the annual Chuseok songpyeon sharing activities but also by holding birthday rice cake sharing events for seniors aged 90 and above.
