[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] Due to the impact of Typhoon No. 11 'Hinnamnor,' more than half of the schools nationwide either closed or switched to remote classes.


According to the Ministry of Education's nationwide academic operation adjustment status as of 10 a.m. on the 6th, 7,348 schools (37.0%) conducted full remote classes, and 2,615 schools (13.2%) were closed. Schools that adjusted their arrival and dismissal times, such as shortened classes, numbered 1,317 (6.6%). Schools conducting normal in-person classes totaled 8,566 (43.2%).


Busan (1,004 schools) and Gyeongnam (1,684 schools) all conducted remote classes. In Ulsan, 383 schools (89.9%) were closed, and 43 schools (10.1%) held remote classes.


In Daegu, 48 schools (6.2%) were closed, 722 schools (93.0%) conducted remote classes, and 6 schools (0.8%) adjusted arrival and dismissal times. In Gyeongbuk, 925 schools (79.8%) held remote classes, 212 schools (18.3%) were closed, and 22 schools (1.9%) conducted normal in-person classes.


In Jeju, 278 schools (89.7%) conducted remote classes, 24 schools (7.7%) were closed, and 8 schools (2.6%) adjusted arrival and dismissal times.


In Gwangju, kindergartens and elementary and middle schools totaling 411 schools (85.8% of all schools) conducted remote classes, while 68 high schools (14.2%) adjusted arrival and dismissal times.


In Seoul, 1,495 schools (69.8%) including kindergartens, elementary schools, and special schools were closed. 385 schools conducted remote classes. Schools that adjusted arrival and dismissal times numbered 112 (5.2%). Only 151 schools (7%) conducted normal classes.


Additionally, in Sejong 89.6%, Gyeonggi 88.9%, Daejeon 84%, Chungnam 81%, and Gangwon 72.3% of schools conducted normal in-person classes.


In Incheon, 618 schools (67.3%) conducted normal in-person classes, and 172 schools (18.7%) adjusted arrival and dismissal times.


In Chungbuk, 249 schools (30.3%) adjusted arrival and dismissal times, 203 schools (24.7%) conducted remote classes, and 352 schools (42.8%) conducted normal in-person classes.


In Jeonbuk, 690 schools (51.3%) conducted remote classes, and 511 schools (37.9%) conducted normal in-person classes. Similarly, in Jeonnam, 690 schools (51.3%) conducted remote classes, and 511 schools (37.9%) conducted normal in-person classes.
