[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Cheol-hyun] The London Olympic Park and Milton Keynes, the largest new town in the UK with a population of 27 million, will become a demonstration stage for 'K-Startups.'
Seoul Startup Hub (SBA) announced on the 6th that it is recruiting companies to participate in the UK Smart City Testbed Program in cooperation with the Korea International Trade Association (KITA). Following Barcelona, Spain, the plan is to expand the stage for Korean companies to demonstrate their innovative technologies to London, UK, and strengthen technology verification to solve urban problems.
The goal of this program is for domestic startups to participate in improving the living environment of London, the capital of the UK, and Milton Keynes, the first new town, as well as in smart city construction projects, to enhance the applicability of their technologies and gain opportunities for global scale-up by accumulating business references. The main technology fields being recruited are carbon reduction technologies, eco-friendly transportation, urban health solutions, and talent development technologies. After screening, about 10 promising startups in these fields will be selected.
Kim Jong-woo, Head of the Startup Division at Seoul Business Agency, said, "As this project is expected to lead to entry into the UK market, we hope that the expansion of our startups into Europe will gradually increase."
