Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju, Enters Emergency Response Posture to Prepare for Historic Typhoon 'Hinnamno'

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Gwangsan District, Gwangju Metropolitan City (District Mayor Park Byung-gyu) announced on the 5th that it will enter an emergency response posture to minimize damage from the approaching Typhoon No. 11 ‘Hinnamnor (HINNAMNOR)’.

On the same day, Gwangsan District Mayor Park Byung-gyu presided over an executive meeting and urged thorough preparation and full-scale response regarding the typhoon’s approach.

As of the 5th, Hinnamnor is an ‘ultra-powerful’ typhoon with a central pressure of 935 hPa and maximum wind speeds reaching 49 m/s.

The typhoon’s center is expected to approach near Gwangju around 5 a.m. on the 6th. Strong rain and wind are also expected throughout Gwangsan District.

Mayor Park emphasized, “We will continuously monitor the typhoon’s progress and immediately activate the emergency duty system upon the announcement of preliminary warnings to respond with full force. Above all, we must conduct thorough and perfect pre-inspections and preparations to minimize property damage and prioritize the safety of citizens.”

Since the 2nd, Gwangsan District has maintained an emergency response posture for the typhoon, holding situation assessment meetings, and on this day, all departments will participate in on-site patrol activities within the district.

They will complete inspections of flood-prone areas where flooding damage is frequent, drainage outlets, banners, and other facilities where safety accidents are a concern before the typhoon’s influence reaches, and will take immediate action on any deficiencies.

Additionally, until the typhoon approaches, focus will be placed on safety inspections of road facilities and outdoor advertisements, and thorough preparations will be made centered on the Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters to minimize citizen damage.

A Gwangsan District official said, “Since forecasts indicate that Hinnamnor will be a record-breaking typhoon, heavy rain accompanied by strong gusts is expected. We will do our utmost to prevent any loss of precious citizens’ lives through thorough on-site inspections and pre-preparations of flood-vulnerable areas and swift responses in case of any incidents.”
