Gyeongnam Province Issues Highest Emergency Alert for Typhoon Preparedness

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Se-ryeong] Park Wan-su, Governor of Gyeongnam Province, activated the Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters Emergency Level 3 at 9 a.m. on the 5th in anticipation of damage from Typhoon Hinnamnor, the 11th typhoon.

The province raised the flood and wind disaster crisis alert from ‘caution’ to ‘severe’ and one-third of all public officials in the province will be on emergency standby duty according to the highest emergency level 3 order issued by the Disaster Headquarters.

Following his inspection visit to Masan Fish Market in Changwon City and Hallim Drainage Pump Station in Gimhae City on the 4th, Governor Park will visit Wahyeon Village in Geoje and Dongho-dong in Tongyeong, areas expected to suffer large-scale typhoon damage, on the 5th to check the typhoon preparedness status.

On the afternoon of the 4th, he attended a typhoon preparedness status meeting presided over by the President, reported on the province’s typhoon preparedness posture, and instructed the 18 cities and counties and related agencies to activate the highest level of emergency system available and respond with full force.

Governor Park emphasized again, “Typhoon Hinnamnor is expected to bring heavy rain accompanied by strong winds, so above all, actively carry out preemptive evacuation of residents to prevent any casualties,” and added, “In case of damage, mobilize military units and provide rapid equipment support, and cooperate with related agencies to ensure swift recovery.”

To the residents, he urged, “The typhoon is expected to pass through our province on the 5th and 6th. Please refrain from going out during the typhoon, and if your house or vehicle is flooded, evacuate immediately to a safe area, prioritizing your precious life.”
