High Chances Predicted for Theme and Production Design Awards
Other Categories Including Best Film, Director, and Acting to Be Awarded on the 12th
The Netflix series "Ojingeo Game" (Squid Game) is challenging to become the first non-English drama to win at the Emmy Awards, the most prestigious accolade in the U.S. broadcasting industry. On the 4th (local time), the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences held the 74th Creative Arts Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony at the Microsoft Theater. This event is aimed at technical staff and crew members. The main Primetime Emmy Awards, which focus on actors and directors, will take place on the 12th.
"Ojingeo Game" was nominated in seven categories at this ceremony: Outstanding Original Main Title Theme Music, Cinematography, Editing, Production Design, Stunt Performance, Visual Effects, and Guest Actor (Supporting Role). The categories with high chances of winning are the theme music and production design. The theme music, blending innocence and eeriness, was composed by Jung Jae-il, who is internationally renowned as the music director of the film "Parasite." It competes against Disney+’s "Loki," Hulu’s "Only Murders in the Building," Apple TV+’s "Severance," and HBO’s "The White Lotus" for the trophy. The production design, which created a bizarre atmosphere with its colorful sets, was led by art director Chae Kyung-sun. Following the success of episode 6, "Kkanbu," which won the Art Directors Guild (ADG) Award in March, it aims for another honor. The competitors include HBO’s "The Flight Attendant," Netflix’s "Ozark," Apple TV+’s "Severance," HBO’s "Succession," and HBO’s "The White Lotus."
"Ojingeo Game" competes for cinematography against HBO’s "Euphoria," Disney+’s "Loki," Amazon Prime Video’s "Marvelous Mrs. Maisel," Netflix’s "Ozark," and HBO’s "Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty." For editing, it faces HBO’s "Euphoria," Apple TV+’s "Severance," Netflix’s "Stranger Things," and HBO’s "Succession." Actress Lee Yoo-mi hopes to win the Guest Actor award, given to actors who play leading roles in individual episodes. She stands alongside formidable nominees such as Hope Davis, Sanaa Lathan, and Harriet Walter from HBO’s "Succession," Marcia Gay Harden from Apple TV+’s "The Morning Show," and Maura Kelly from HBO’s "Euphoria."
Meanwhile, "Ojingeo Game" was also nominated in seven categories for the Primetime Emmy Awards: Outstanding Drama Series, Directing (Hwang Dong-hyuk), Writing (Hwang Dong-hyuk), Lead Actor (Lee Jung-jae), Supporting Actor (Park Hae-soo, Oh Young-soo), and Supporting Actress (Jung Ho-yeon).
