[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Suwon City in Gyeonggi Province is set to inspect the status of child rights protection at child welfare facilities within its jurisdiction.
On the 5th, Suwon City announced that it will conduct the "2022 Inspection of Child Rights Protection Status for Children Residing in Child Welfare Facilities" by the 28th of next month to strengthen the protection of children who have entered child welfare facilities due to lack of family protection, such as victims of abuse, and to prevent child abuse within the facilities.
To this end, the city formed a joint inspection team consisting of public officials from Suwon City's Childcare and Child Protection Division and Human Rights Officer, as well as representatives from the Suwon Child Protection Agency.
The main inspection targets are eight child welfare facilities, including shelters for abused children and childcare facilities, with 75 resident children subject to inspection.
The key inspection items include ▲ the status of children's health management ▲ whether child abuse occurs within the facility (child discipline methods, corporal punishment, staff behavior) ▲ occurrence of child abuse by outsiders (such as volunteers) ▲ awareness of child abuse reporting procedures ▲ whether children and staff receive human rights education ▲ and whether staff have completed child abuse-related training.
The city plans to immediately correct any violations found during the inspection and impose criminal charges and administrative measures if child abuse is detected.
A city official stated, "We will thoroughly inspect the human rights conditions of children living in child welfare facilities to protect their safety and health," and promised, "We will strengthen management and supervision to prevent human rights issues such as child abuse within the facilities and promote a culture of child abuse prevention."
