The Gyeonggi Province Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters explained that, with the issuance of a preliminary heavy rain advisory across the province, the initial response stage was elevated to Emergency Level 1 to establish a proactive disaster response system.
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, on the night of the 4th, a preliminary heavy rain advisory will be issued for Paju City, Yeoncheon County, and Gimpo City, and on the morning of the 5th, for the entire Gyeonggi Province.
The Meteorological Administration also forecasted that between the 4th and 6th, a total of approximately 100 to 400mm of rain will fall in the Gyeonggi area.
The Emergency Level 1 system operates with the head of the Natural Disaster Division of Gyeonggi Province as the Situation Management General Team Leader, with a total of 32 officials including those responsible for rivers, railway operations, and safety management on duty.
The province is currently conducting preemptive surveillance activities in disaster-prone areas such as landslide-vulnerable zones and is continuously monitoring these areas using closed-circuit television (CCTV) in the disaster situation room.
Additionally, the province maintains communication systems with 31 cities and counties and related agencies to share the situation, while intensively promoting behavioral guidelines such as prohibiting access to heavy rain risk areas and refraining from outdoor activities through disaster text messages.
Meanwhile, Governor Kim Dong-yeon visited the drainage pump station in Pyeong-dong, Gwonseon-gu, Suwon City, in the afternoon to check the operation status of the drainage pump station. He also visited the Gyeonggi Fire and Disaster Headquarters and presided over a 'Typhoon Emergency Response Preparedness Video Conference,' urging special vigilance and preparedness.
Governor Kim emphasized, "In preparation for the typhoon, please pay special attention to vulnerable areas and vulnerable groups, and double-check to ensure that areas and residents who suffered damage during the previous heavy rain do not experience damage again this time."
