Recruiting 40 Children Aged 5 to 12 from Multicultural and Foreign Resident Families... Operating 6 Venues
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 5th that it will recruit an additional 40 children aged 5 to 12 from multicultural and foreign resident families living in Seoul to participate in this year’s ‘FC Seoul Youth Soccer School.’ The training will be held once a week (50 or 80 minutes per session) at six district venues until the end of November.
Celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, the ‘FC Seoul Youth Soccer School for Children from Multicultural and General Families’ has been operated as a public-private partnership project since 2013 by Seoul City and FC Seoul to support the healthy growth of children from multicultural families and promote intercultural understanding.
The FC Seoul Soccer School is a program that helps alleviate prejudice and feelings of alienation toward multicultural families through the diversification of its members and supports their healthy growth as members of society. So far, 2,300 children from multicultural families have participated. The Namchon Foundation, GS Caltex, GS Retail, and GS Global provide full support for all costs, including educational supplies and tuition, so that multicultural children can attend the soccer school free of charge.
Children from multicultural and foreign resident families who wish to participate in the soccer school must submit application and supporting documents via email to the person in charge. Selected children will be contacted individually by FC Seoul to provide detailed schedules.
Im Ji-hoon, Head of the Family and Multicultural Affairs Division at Seoul City, said, “Seoul City and FC Seoul have been operating the soccer school for children from multicultural and general families to promote intercultural understanding. We will continue to support their growth as healthy members of society through sports activities and various exchanges.”
