[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] As Typhoon Hinnamnor No. 11 approaches, residents near construction sites in Gyeongnam Province are expressing concerns about potential damage.
The intersection improvement construction in front of Naeseo Sports Center in Masanhwoe-gu, Changwon City, Gyeongnam, has been temporarily halted as the stormwater box remains exposed during the construction.
The Masanhwoe-gu Office stated that the stormwater box was exposed during construction, causing a mismatch in the road surface drainage, and the work was paused to relocate or slightly lower the stormwater box for proper drainage.
The district office plans to resume construction on the 13th after the Chuseok holiday, having prepared countermeasures related to the stormwater box.
As of the evening of the 2nd, materials such as paving blocks and bricks were piled up along the sidewalks at the halted site.
With strong winds and rain expected due to the typhoon, residents of the Naeseo Sports Center nearby, the apartments across from the center, and nearby shops voiced concerns about materials possibly being blown away.

Apartment resident A said, “I saw the weather forecast saying this typhoon is so strong it can even blow away rocks. The road is dug up for construction, soil is exposed, and paving blocks are scattered around. Just thinking about those being blown by the wind is terrifying.”
Shop owner B said, “The district office covered the ground and put up traffic cones and lights, but it’s still worrisome. I hope they quickly move the materials somewhere else.”
A district office official explained, “The excavated areas are marked with PE drums and traffic cones, and stones and excavated surfaces are firmly secured with nets. Lights have been installed so the site is visible at night.”
He added, “Construction materials will be moved quickly to other locations, and water is prevented from pooling in the excavated areas to allow drainage. We will stay on site and promptly respond using equipment to clear water channels if drainage problems occur.”
