[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] “Focus administrative efforts on emergency response by each department to minimize damage from wind and rain caused by the typhoon.”

On the 2nd, Hong Taeyong, mayor of Gimhae City, Gyeongnam, conducted a safety inspection of flood-prone areas in preparation for Typhoon Hinnamnor, the 11th typhoon.

Mayor Hong inspected the Naedeok district urban flood prevention project site, nearby villages, and drainage channels along National Road No. 58.

According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, Typhoon Hinnamnor, the 11th typhoon, is likely to develop into an ultra-powerful typhoon, and the Gimhae area is forecasted to be directly affected on the 5th to 6th.

The city has deployed 26 large 10-inch pumps, excavators, and flood control materials in the Naedeok-dong area to prepare for any emergency.

According to the city, the Naedeok-dong area, through which National Road No. 58 passes, is low-lying and prone to frequent flooding during heavy rain.

The city is carrying out the Naedeok district urban flood prevention project, which involves installing rainwater pumping stations, retention basins, and stormwater pipelines, with a budget of 38.1 billion KRW. Construction is scheduled to start this month and be completed by early 2025.

A city official predicted that once the project is completed, the frequent flooding affecting about 2,600 households over an area of 1.8㎢ will be completely resolved.

Mayor Hong said, “This typhoon, considered the strongest this summer, is accompanied not only by strong winds but also by heavy rain. We will prioritize citizens’ safety and make every effort to minimize damage. The urban flood prevention projects in Naedeok and Andong districts will also proceed without delay.”
