[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] “Due to the impact of Super Typhoon Hinnamnor, accidents caused by falling objects and safety incidents from strong rain and wind are expected, so thorough public awareness campaigns to prevent casualties must be conducted.”

Park Wan-su, Governor of Gyeongnam Province, said this during a typhoon countermeasure meeting held on the 2nd afternoon with participation from 18 cities and counties and related organizations.

According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, Typhoon Hinnamnor, the 11th typhoon which had been lingering over the sea east of Taiwan, is expected to move northward on the afternoon of the 2nd and pass south of Jeju Island on the 5th.

Due to the typhoon's very strong power, Gyeongnam Province anticipates that its impact on the region will be considerable from that time.

Governor Park presided over the meeting and received reports on the operational status of flood prevention facilities such as drainage pump stations, the cleaning of trash from rainwater drainage facilities in urban areas, and inspections of habitual flood-prone lowlands and underground roadways at risk of flooding.

Changwon City and Miryang City conveyed information regarding the establishment of a pre-evacuation system for residents in vulnerable areas such as semi-basement houses, which suffered heavy casualties in the metropolitan area, and areas prone to landslides due to forest fires.

The province also inspected protective measures for crops such as rice and fruits nearing harvest, as well as for aquaculture farms.

Governor Park instructed, “In addition to semi-basement houses and landslide-prone areas, continuously inspect apartment complexes and retaining walls in industrial complexes to prevent casualties,” and added, “Put all efforts into preventing river flooding and managing facilities such as construction sites.”
