[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Jun-hee) was honored on the 2nd by receiving the Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Award in the ‘Urban and Natural Harmonized Cultural Landscape Category’ at the ‘2022 Korea Land Grand Prize’ for the ‘Cultural Flowing Starlit Naerimcheon Special Project.’
The district restored ‘Dorimcheon,’ which had been blocked by gray concrete retaining walls, into a waterfront cultural space where nature and people coexist, and gave it a new river brand name, ‘Starlit Naerimcheon,’ the first of its kind in Seoul.
At this Land Grand Prize, the ‘Starlit Naerimcheon Special Project’ was highly evaluated for its role as a focal point for urban stream multifunctionality recovery and regional regeneration across four major areas: stream, bridge, bridge pier, and road.
Park Jun-hee, Mayor of Gwanak-gu, said, “We will develop ‘Starlit Naerimcheon,’ the representative waterfront space in the southwest area, into a joyful attraction where nature, culture, and people coexist together.”
Seodaemun-gu (Mayor Lee Seong-heon) announced on the 2nd that it provided quarantine supplies to model driver members and passengers for their safety amid the resurgence of COVID-19 infections.
The items included 4,000 health masks, 105 hand sanitizers, 100 disinfectants, and 50 thermometers, which Mayor Lee Seong-heon recently delivered by visiting the Model Drivers Association office.
The Seodaemun-gu Model Drivers Association, consisting of about 150 individual taxi drivers, has been providing traffic guidance and management at various events such as the Seodaemun Independence Festa held last month on Liberation Day, as well as at habitual congestion areas and construction sites.
Kim Yong-hwa, president of the Seodaemun-gu Model Drivers Association, expressed gratitude, saying, “Since we have frequent contact with residents during vehicle operations and various event supports, the provided quarantine supplies will greatly help the safety of members and residents.”
Mayor Lee Seong-heon said, “I thank the members of the Model Drivers Association who come wherever there is citizen traffic inconvenience, and Seodaemun-gu will do its best in public transportation quarantine.”

Yangcheon-gu Mayor Lee Ki-jae attended the ‘(Corporation) People Sharing Hope (Chairman Kim Jeong-an) Neighbor Love Donation Ceremony’ held on the morning of the 2nd at Mokdong Public Parking Lot.
The People Sharing Hope corporation donated 11 tons of daily necessities including shampoo, toothpaste, and detergent worth about 100 million KRW in market price to help neighbors in need during the Chuseok holiday. The items are planned to be delivered to 10 social welfare facilities and veterans’ organizations in the region.
Seocho-gu (Mayor Jeon Seong-su) held the ‘2022 Seocho-gu Gender Equality Week Commemoration Ceremony’ and the ‘Seocho-gu Gender Equality Grassroots Festival’ on the 2nd in the district office lobby and auditorium to mark Gender Equality Week (September 1?7).
This event, under the slogan ‘Towards Gender Equality for a Happier Tomorrow,’ was held face-to-face for the first time in three years since COVID-19 to foster a culture of gender equality.
First, the district held the ‘2022 Seocho-gu Gender Equality Week Commemoration Ceremony’ in the auditorium on the 2nd floor of the district office. The ceremony began with a congratulatory performance by a special ensemble and included ▲ awarding the ‘8th Seocho Women’s Award’ to Seocho residents and organizations leading gender equality realization and women’s social participation ▲ awarding the ‘Youth Gender Empathy Short Essay Contest’ for middle and high school students ▲ a special lecture by docent Jeong Woo-cheol.
Alongside, the ‘Seocho-gu Gender Equality Grassroots Festival’ was held in the first-floor lobby. This participatory event was planned directly by 17 local grassroots organizations and activists and consisted of congratulatory performances and various experience booths.
The congratulatory performances featured grassroots activists’ performances such as the Seoripul Harmonica and Mini Harp Ensemble, as well as a unique kalimba performance by Hwang Ji-su, this year’s Seocho Women’s Award recipient.
Experience booths were set up at one corner of the venue, offering ▲ Experience Zone (making delicious snacks with topping ingredients, oracle card experience for self-discovery) ▲ Knowledge Zone (re-examining occupations from a gender perspective, pregnancy experience) ▲ Event Zone (writing gender equality practice pledges).
Notably, participants who write gender equality practice pledges at the Event Zone receive a potted plant as a gift.
Jeon Seong-su, Mayor of Seocho-gu, said, “Through this event, I hope to raise understanding of gender equality culture and that the realization of a gender-equal society will bear fruit one by one in Seocho-gu. We will continue to strive to make Seocho-gu a model city for gender equality nationwide through various gender equality policy initiatives.”
