Ministry of Foreign Affairs Holds Meeting with Missionary Groups Urging "Personal Safety Precautions"

Joint Meeting of Government and Private Missionary Overseas Dispatch Organizations Chaired by Director of Overseas Koreans Office
Explanation of International Terrorism Trends and Recent Situations

[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo In-ho] The Ministry of Foreign Affairs held a regular meeting with missionary dispatch organizations overseas and urged caution regarding personal safety.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the 2nd, a meeting was held the previous day chaired by Kim Wan-jung, Director of the Overseas Koreans Consular Office, with about 30 participants including government officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, Terrorism Information Integration Center, and representatives from missionary dispatch-related organizations such as the Korea Crisis Management Foundation and the Korea World Mission Council.

Director Kim stated that although risks to personal safety overseas continue due to the prolonged COVID-19 situation and worsening public security, with the easing of overseas entry restrictions by various countries and the Korean government's abolition of pre-entry PCR (polymerase chain reaction) tests, the demand for departure is expected to gradually increase, and he requested cooperation for safe overseas missionary activities.

Government officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and others explained recent trends in international terrorism and the current situation in regions requiring caution, and the attending missionary organization representatives emphasized that they would remain vigilant and pay close attention to safety during their activities.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs holds regular safety meetings with missionary organizations once or twice a year. The next safety meeting is scheduled to be held around December this year.
