Support for Victims Including Appointment of Public Defenders
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Byung-don] Amid renewed signs of crimes involving child sexual exploitation videos online, the police have taken strong measures by forming a dedicated task force (TF) to investigate the so-called 'Second n-bang' incident.
On the 1st, the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's Cyber Crime Investigation Unit announced, "We have formed a dedicated investigation team for the swift investigation of cases involving the production and distribution of child and adolescent sexual exploitation materials using Telegram."
The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency plans to expand the investigation team from one to six teams, totaling 35 members, and will collaborate with court-appointed lawyers and the Digital Sexual Crime Victim Support Center to protect victims.
A police official explained, "We will strictly respond not only to those who produce and distribute child and adolescent sexual exploitation materials but also to those who watch and possess them."
Meanwhile, the police are currently investigating Mr. A on charges including violations of the Child and Youth Sexual Protection Act.
The police believe that Mr. A coerced minors into forcibly filming sexual exploitation videos and then obtained and distributed them via online messengers such as Telegram, and they are confirming the detailed circumstances of the crime.
There are reportedly multiple victims, and the related videos number around 300.
The police are also investigating the possibility of multiple accomplices involved with Mr. A in the crime. Those who received and redistributed the sexual exploitation materials may also be subject to investigation.
