Jinju City to Care for Mild Dementia Patients with AI Care Robot 'Hamo'! Exterior view of the Dementia Safety Center

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Jinju City, Gyeongnam Province, has selected 50 mild dementia patients who have been marginalized due to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic and is strengthening non-face-to-face care services using the AI care robot ‘Hamo’. Applications for the program are being accepted until the 6th.

The care robot ‘Hamo’ was created by combining an artificial intelligence system with the friendly image of Jinju City's symbolic Hamo character to minimize gaps in elderly care and prevent the worsening of cognitive decline symptoms.

Its main functions include ▲personal schedule alarms and medication guidance for health and lifestyle management ▲interactive conversations with the robot and emotional stability management ▲content programs such as playing old stories or songs ▲remote safety confirmation through a monitoring system.

The service support targets are elderly people aged 75 to 79 living alone, registered as mild dementia patients at the Dementia Safety Center, and residing in Jinju City. The city plans to select 50 recipients considering additional priority criteria such as income.

A city official stated, “We expect that elderly dementia patients facing care gaps will be able to easily engage in cognitive stimulation activities at home with the Hamo care robot, preventing dementia deterioration and receiving support from non-face-to-face care services.”
