Samsung Electronics Temporary General Meeting... Proposal to Appoint Former Trade Headquarters Director Yum Myung-hee as Outside Director

[Asia Economy Reporter Junho Hwang] Samsung Electronics announced on the 1st that it will hold an extraordinary general meeting of shareholders on November 3rd at the Concert Hall of the Samsung Electronics Human Resources Development Center Seocheon Training Center, located at 59 Seocheon-dong-ro, Giheung-gu, Yongin-si, Gyeonggi-do, to resolve the appointment of outside directors.

The candidates for outside directors are Yoo Myung-hee, a visiting professor at Seoul National University Graduate School of International Studies, and Heo Eun-nyung, vice dean of Seoul National University Graduate School of Engineering.

Professor Yoo Myung-hee is an expert in economic and trade affairs who served as Director-General of the Trade Negotiations Office and Head of the Trade Negotiations Headquarters at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, concluding her 29-year public service career last August.

She held positions such as Counsellor dispatched to the APEC Secretariat (2010?2014), Free Trade Agreement Negotiator and Head of the FTA Promotion Planning Team at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (2015?2017), Director of the Trade Policy Bureau (2017?2018), Director-General of the Trade Negotiations Office (2018?2019), Head of the Trade Negotiations Headquarters at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (2019?2021), and Economic and Trade Ambassador at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2021?2022). She was also a final candidate for the Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO) in 2020.

Vice Dean Heo served as a private member of the National Economic Advisory Council (2013?2015), a private member of the Green Growth Committee (2013?2017), Vice President of the International Association for Energy Economics (IAEE) (2017?2019), and President of the Korean Resource Economics Association (2019?2020).

Samsung Electronics stated, "Candidate Yoo Myung-hee's appointment is subject to approval of employment by the Government Public Officials Ethics Committee."
