[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Hyowon] Innosis announced on the 1st that it signed a business agreement at its Seongsu-dong headquarters with Gaoncell and PDIGID (PDIGlobal Infrastructure Development) to jointly promote the establishment of a hydrogen fuel cell parts and materials cooperative complex in Wanju.

Through this project, Innosis plans to expand investment in graphite fiber materials and apply them to the composite bipolar plates, a core component of hydrogen fuel cells. Composite bipolar plates for fuel cells must have excellent electrical conductivity, corrosion resistance, and sealing properties, while being thin, lightweight, and easy to process. Graphite has been judged to be the most suitable material for this purpose.

Under this agreement, Innosis and Gaoncell will jointly manage the creation of a specialized hydrogen fuel cell parts and materials cooperative complex on approximately 135,000 m2 (about 40,000 pyeong) in Techno Valley, Bongdong-eup, Wanju-gun, Jeonbuk. They plan to produce key components to supply to Gaoncell’s large-scale hydrogen fuel cell production plant within the Saudi-Korea Industrial Valley (SKIV) in Saudi Arabia.

Moreover, by attracting various core hydrogen fuel cell parts manufacturers to the cooperative complex, they aim to enhance productivity through mutual collaboration and shared equipment and facilities, significantly reducing logistics costs and time to establish global competitiveness.

Since Gaoncell is already promoting a marine hydrogen cooperative complex in Sacheon, Innosis is expected to actively participate in the Sacheon cooperative complex to increase synergy. Gaoncell is a company with world-class methanol-based fuel cell (DMFC) technology and polymer electrolyte membrane hydrogen fuel cell (PEMFC) technology. It developed the first domestically applicable hydrogen fuel cell power pack, which has been demonstrated in the Ulsan Hydrogen Green Mobility Regulatory Free Zone on forklifts and autonomous guided vehicles (AGVs).

Innosis is already advancing aerospace and autonomous driving businesses, while also turning its attention to advanced new materials such as graphene and graphite. Through this, the company aims to improve its corporate structure and avoid falling into the trap of becoming a stagnant company.

PDIGID, headquartered in the United States, is a project finance structure consulting firm specializing in business discovery, planning, and project financing. It will provide advisory services on the overall direction of the cooperative complex project currently underway.

Meanwhile, the three companies that completed this agreement plan to actively build cooperative relationships to foster the hydrogen energy business in response to the government’s carbon neutrality policy.
