[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Su-yeon] LG Uplus launched 'Dual Number Plus' on the 1st, coinciding with the commercialization of eSIM, allowing users to use two numbers on one smartphone by paying an additional 8,800 KRW per month on top of the basic plan.
Dual Number Plus is a product launched for Dual-SIM users who use both the existing USIM and eSIM simultaneously. Any LG Uplus customer using a smartphone that supports eSIM can subscribe. Smartphones supporting eSIM in Korea include iPhone series released after iPhone XS and 18 models such as the newly released Galaxy Z Fold4 and Flip4.
By subscribing to 'Dual Number Plus,' a second number is issued on one smartphone, and users can share 250MB of data per month (QoS 400Kbps after depletion) and the call and text usage of the first number for 8,800 KRW per month. In particular, the second number can also share the data included in the first number's plan, allowing unlimited use.
For example, a customer subscribed to the '5G Slim+ (6GB data)' plan worth 47,000 KRW per month who additionally uses Dual Number Plus can share the 6GB data provided by the primary number through the second number. Customers using the '5G Premier Regular (unlimited data)' plan worth 95,000 KRW per month as their primary number can use the 50GB shareable data included in the plan with the second number as well.
Dual Number Plus is a no-contract product that requires no separate commitment, allowing free subscription and cancellation.
LG Uplus is also running a promotion to issue eSIMs free of charge until December to activate the eSIM, which is introduced for the first time in Korea.
Lee Hyun-seung, head of LG Uplus's Plans/Partnership Products, said, "We have newly launched Dual Number Plus so that customers can use the 1-phone 2-number service using eSIM without burden," and added, "We will continue to do our best to expand customers' choices and help the domestic eSIM market settle quickly."
