Gwangju City Council Joins Forces to Develop Policies Responding to Changes in Labor Environment

Formation of New Special Labor Committee... Cha Eun-ji Appointed Chairperson, Lee Myung-no Vice Chairperson

Gwangju City Council Joins Forces to Develop Policies Responding to Changes in Labor Environment Chae Eun-ji, New Chairperson of the Special Labor Committee

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] The Gwangju Metropolitan Council announced on the 31st that it passed the “Resolution on the Formation of the New Labor Special Committee for Labor-Management Coexistence and Workplace Innovation (hereinafter New Labor Special Committee)” at the 2nd plenary session of the 309th extraordinary meeting.

Chairperson Cha Eunji was appointed as the chair, and Lee Myeongno as the vice-chair. The committee is composed of members Kim Nayun, Park Mijeong, Shim Changuk, Shim Cheolui, Lim Miran, and Hong Giwol.

The New Labor Special Committee plans to start by understanding the labor issues and labor-management relations perceptions in Gwangju Metropolitan City through a public opinion survey of citizens, and will focus on policy development to address labor issues such as checking the Gwangju-type jobs and preventing major accidents, as well as responding to future labor environments.

Chairperson Cha Eunji said, “Labor-management coexistence and cooperation are not optional but essential,” and added, “We will identify the current status of labor-management relations in Gwangju Metropolitan City, which has pioneered Gwangju-type jobs by advocating a labor-management coexistence city, and strive to improve the labor environment.”

She continued, “The reason the committee is named ‘New Labor Special Committee’ is to serve as a catalyst to redefine labor-management relations as a coexistence relationship rather than confrontation, in line with the global trend of the ESG management paradigm,” and explained, “This is to proactively respond to atypical labor environments such as ‘platform labor’ and ‘freelancers,’ and to prepare for a fair labor transition during the restructuring process of business structures such as ‘low carbon’ and ‘digitalization.’”

Meanwhile, Chairperson Cha Eunji has worked as a labor attorney and is expected to demonstrate professional capabilities in responding to changes in the labor environment.
