[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Gyeonggi Housing and Urban Corporation (GH) signed a business agreement with the Korea Post on the 31st for the 'Old Post Office Complex Development Project.'
The complex development project aims to provide high-quality public rental housing with excellent transportation convenience and infrastructure to Gyeonggi residents struggling to secure housing, thereby helping stabilize their living conditions. Customers who experienced inconvenience using post offices due to building aging will receive comfortable services.
The agreement targets the demolition of old post offices over 30 years old in the province, with plans to build post offices on the low floors (1st to 2nd floors) and public rental housing on the upper floors as part of the complex development project.
Key details include pilot projects at two post offices, Seoanyang and Uijeongbu 3-dong, role sharing between institutions, and the discovery of subsequent development candidate sites. The Korea Post will lease the land for 40 years, while GH will be responsible for constructing buildings, supplying public rental housing, and managing operations.
The Seoanyang Post Office, the project site, is adjacent to multiple industrial facilities such as Anyang Station and Anyang IT Valley, as well as four universities including Anyang University. The Uijeongbu 3-dong Post Office is located in a central commercial area formed around Uijeongbu Station, Shinsegae Department Store, and Rodeo Street.
The integrated public rental housing will supply 228 units in Seoanyang and 262 units in Uijeongbu. Construction will begin in the second half of 2023, with occupancy scheduled for the first half of 2026.
Introduced in 2021, the integrated public rental housing combines various types of public rental housing such as permanent, national, and happy housing into one, simplifying complex income and asset criteria. It uses an income-linked rent system where rent is set according to income level, allowing residence for up to 30 years.
Last month, GH also started a complex development project to build integrated public rental housing and an administrative welfare center on the former Anseong Hospital site owned by Gyeonggi Province to solve housing problems for Gyeonggi residents and improve public convenience.
Jeon Hyung-su, GH Vice President (Acting President), emphasized, "The Old Post Office Complex Development Project is a business model that can contribute to housing welfare by providing comfortable postal services and affordable rental housing. We will continue to cooperate and strive to discover new projects in the future."
