On the 29th, KBS announced, “Kim Shin-young has been chosen as the new MC of ‘Nationwide Singing Contest’ following the late Song Hae.” ‘Nationwide Singing Contest’ is a long-running program that the late Song Hae had hosted since May 1988, and he continued to host it until his passing in June.

Kim Shin-young, who will newly take on the role of host for ‘Nationwide Singing Contest,’ debuted in 2003 as part of SBS’s 7th public recruitment class of comedians and is now celebrating her 20th year since debut. During her career, Kim Shin-young has appeared in various programs including stand-up comedy and variety shows. Since 2012, she has been hosting MBC FM4U radio’s ‘Noon Hope Song, This is Kim Shin-young.’

Netizens who heard the news of Kim Shin-young hosting ‘Nationwide Singing Contest’ mostly expressed anticipation with comments like “Perfect fit,” “I can already picture her doing well,” and “I want to see it right away.” One netizen wrote, “I felt that KBS is paying attention to ‘Nationwide Singing Contest,’” adding, “The existing audience will find Kim Shin-young adorable, and other generations will be curious because of her.”

In a video interview released through KBS’s YouTube channel, Kim Shin-young said, “It is an honor for my family,” and added, “I want to communicate with many people across the country and learn diligently. I want to host energetically and joyfully without dishonoring the tradition.”

According to KBS, Kim Shin-young’s ‘Nationwide Singing Contest’ will air for the first time on October 16.
