Operation of Ssireum Class Program Requested by Gurye Disabled Welfare Center
Following Schools, Collaborating with Local Welfare Centers for Talent Donation
[Gurye=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yuk Miseok] Jeollanam-do Gurye-gun (Governor Kim Sunho) announced that the Gurye-gun Office Women's Ssireum Team has been continuously engaged in talent donation activities in response to repeated requests for Ssireum classes.
On August 29, the county held a Ssireum class for 20 disabled users of the Gurye-gun Disabled Welfare Center at the Sandong Four Seasons All-Weather Ssireum Arena.
The Ssireum class was conducted in two sessions, each lasting one hour. Cheers erupted every time the demonstration players showcased Ssireum techniques during the first session. It was a Ssireum event where everyone got excited by the Ssireum techniques they experienced for the first time.
In the second session, some participated in Ssireum practice matches, while others spent time touching the sand with their hands and walking barefoot around the Ssireum arena to feel and experience the texture of the sand.
Kim Sunho, Governor of Gurye-gun, said, “I hope this Ssireum class will serve as an opportunity to widely promote the fun of our traditional Ssireum to many people.” He added, “I am grateful to the Ssireum team players who devoted their talents.”
Meanwhile, the Gurye-gun Ssireum class has been held for three years since 2020 to foster successors and expand the base of Ssireum, and plans to gradually expand its target audience in the future.
