SKC Launches 'My Green Place' Recycling Information App for Find 8-Code Campaign

[Asia Economy Reporter Choi Seoyoon] SKC announced on the 30th that it will conduct a campaign encouraging the submission of product barcode information through ‘My Green Place,’ a game-based recycling information application introduced for the first time in Korea.

SKC is running the ‘Find the 8-Code’ campaign until the 16th of next month, which encourages users to report product information not yet registered in My Green Place. Participation is simple. Users scan products with barcodes starting with the number 8 using the My Green Place app, and if the product is not registered, they report it and upload it on Instagram with hashtags (#MyGreenPlace #FindThe8Code #Event #MinistryOfEnvironment #SKCxERT). Participants will receive prizes such as an iPad Air depending on the number of times they participate.

My Green Place, launched by SKC in April, has surpassed 10,000 downloads within four months of release. Users can learn recycling methods by solving quizzes within the game. Notably, when scanning a product barcode, users can instantly see detailed information about materials like PET, PE, ABS?which are difficult to identify by name alone?as well as recycling grades and methods.

Because it provides accurate recycling instructions for each product, it helps consumers contribute to resource recycling. Additionally, users can accumulate points to decorate their ‘own world’ with items such as endangered plants and animals, and enjoy the fun of competing with other users in point accumulation. My Green Place was recognized for its environmental contribution and completeness, winning the Minister’s Award at the Ministry of Environment’s ‘Environmental Data Utilization Idea Contest’ in June.

This campaign was prepared to commemorate the Minister’s Award and as part of SK Group’s ‘New Corporate Spirit’ joint activity, ‘Reduce Carbon, Recycle Resources.’ The purpose is to increase the number of products registered in My Green Place by users themselves and encourage participation in resource circulation. The event name ‘Find the 8-Code’ is inspired by the fact that the first digit of the country classification number at the bottom of the barcode is ‘880’ for South Korea.

An SKC official said, “By directly participating in expanding My Green Place’s product information through the ‘Find the 8-Code’ campaign, users can gain various chances to win prizes while contributing to solving environmental issues. We will continue to expand the product information, currently about 50,000 items, to provide richer information and contribute to resource circulation.”
