[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] Ewha Womans University selects 2,099 students, which is 66.1% of the total quota within the enrollment capacity, through early admission. By admission type, the Comprehensive Student Record Screening admits the most with 1,094 students, followed by the High School Recommendation Screening, which admits 400 students, and the Essay Screening, which admits 310 students.
In the 2023 academic year, Ewha Womans University established the College of Artificial Intelligence and newly created the Department of Data Science. The existing AI Convergence Department (Artificial Intelligence Major) was reorganized into the Department of Artificial Intelligence. In 2023, the Department of Artificial Intelligence will admit 10 students (natural sciences) through the Future Talent Screening in early admission, and the Department of Data Science will admit 7 students (natural sciences) through the Future Talent Screening and 3 students (natural sciences) through the Equal Opportunity Screening. Both departments will admit 20% of their enrollment quota from humanities students in the regular admission.
The biggest change in the 2023 early admission is the relaxation of the minimum CSAT (College Scholastic Ability Test) score requirements for natural science applicants. For the Future Talent Screening and Essay Screening, the minimum CSAT requirement has been relaxed to a total grade of 5 or less in two subjects including mathematics among four areas: Korean, Mathematics, English, and Science Inquiry. For the Equal Opportunity Screening and Social Contribution Screening, the requirement is a total grade of 6 or less in two subjects including mathematics. The Comprehensive Student Record Screening in early admission continues to expand its admission numbers, selecting 1,094 students this year (921 for Future Talent, 158 for Equal Opportunity, and 15 for Social Contribution). This is the largest number of students admitted among early admission types. The Comprehensive Student Record Screening evaluates 100% based on documents without interviews. The self-introduction letter has been abolished starting this year. The High School Recommendation Screening admits up to 5% of the enrolled female students regardless of humanities or natural sciences, with a maximum of 10 students. As in the previous year, it selects students by combining 80% academic records and 20% interview scores without applying the minimum CSAT requirement. All applicants have the opportunity to interview, and the absence of minimum CSAT requirements is a significant feature.
The evaluation elements and criteria used in early admission are entirely based on the high school curriculum. For document evaluation, the criteria are set based on an understanding of the school curriculum conducted at the high school level. For interviews, there are no separate prompts, and a general interview is conducted based on the submitted documents. The interview process may change depending on the COVID-19 situation, so applicants must check the admissions office website for updates. The essay questions for the Essay Screening are created within the high school curriculum, and several high school teachers participate in reviewing the appropriateness of the questions.
