Comprehensive Chuseok Holiday Measures Implemented for Two Weeks from the 29th, 28 Measures in 7 Areas Prepared
Creating a Healthy and Warm Holiday Atmosphere by Adding Warmth and Sharing Difficulties
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Song Jong-gu] Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam is implementing a 'Chuseok Holiday Comprehensive Plan' focused on citizen safety and maintaining daily life for two weeks from August 29 to September 12 in preparation for Chuseok, the traditional Korean holiday.
The key measures consist of seven areas: ▲Maintaining the COVID-19 response system ▲Citizen safety measures ▲Enhancing resident convenience ▲Stabilizing prices for low-income households ▲Resolving traffic inconveniences ▲Sharing with marginalized neighbors ▲Establishing public service discipline, with a total of 28 detailed plans established.
In particular, the city will operate a 'Chuseok Holiday Comprehensive Situation Room' for four days starting from September 9, the first day of the holiday, and will actively respond to various emergencies such as citizen inconveniences and safety accidents that may occur during the holiday based on the comprehensive plan.
First, by maintaining readiness at the Disaster Comprehensive Situation Room during the holiday period, the city will focus on situation management to promptly respond to various disaster situations such as typhoons, heavy rain, and wildfires. Especially, administrative efforts will be made to prevent various safety accidents in advance through safety inspections of multi-use facilities, fire-vulnerable facilities, and operation of the wildfire prevention countermeasures headquarters.
Additionally, COVID-19 response screening clinics and operation of eight medical institutions, along with designation of open medical institutions and pharmacies, will be maintained to manage COVID-19 infection control and prepare for emergency patients during the Chuseok holiday.
Measures to enhance resident convenience have also been prepared to ensure no inconvenience in citizens' daily lives during the holiday. Household waste will be collected normally on September 9 and 12, and to prevent waste accumulation and illegal dumping in case of cleaning gaps, a household waste collection task force (mobile cleaning team) will be deployed.
Convenience measures for visitors using burial facilities during the holiday are also being promoted. During the Chuseok holiday, the city-run columbariums (Sangbok Park 1 & 2 Columbariums, Masan Yeongsaengwon, Jinhae Cheonjawon) will extend their hours by two hours, allowing use from 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., with separated entry and exit routes, guided sequential entry, and internal ventilation and disinfection to focus on quarantine management.
Furthermore, a comprehensive water supply situation room will be operated, and gas and electricity inspection teams will be organized to thoroughly manage and supervise stable supply of tap water, gas, and electricity.
Measures to stabilize prices for low-income households and revitalize the local economy will also be implemented. Price monitoring will be conducted to crack down on and guide unfair trade practices, ensuring a stable commercial order. Additionally, an Onnuri gift certificate refund event to promote consumption in traditional markets will be held. When purchasing over 50,000 KRW at traditional markets, a 5,000 KRW Onnuri gift certificate will be refunded, and this event will run until September 8.
Moreover, plans to revitalize the local economy include expanding issuance of the 45 billion KRW scale Changwon Love Gift Certificates Nubijeon and providing loan support for small and medium-sized enterprise development funds to support small business owners and SMEs.
As it is a traditional holiday, the city will also take the lead in creating a warm holiday atmosphere by sharing affection with lonely and struggling neighbors. Consolation goods will be provided to 1,187 social welfare facilities, and consolation money will be given to approximately 40,000 low-income marginalized groups.
In addition, through on-site inspections for safe operation of public transportation, operation of a traffic comprehensive situation room for handling traffic inconvenience reports and guidance, the city will manage to ensure that holiday travelers and visitors to ancestral graves can conveniently use transportation during the Chuseok holiday.
Hong Nam-pyo, Mayor of Changwon Special City, said, “We will focus administrative efforts on implementing a practical Chuseok holiday comprehensive plan so that citizens can spend a safe and comfortable holiday,” and added, “As this is the first holiday since the relaxation of COVID-19 quarantine rules, I ask everyone to adhere well to daily life quarantine rules so that families can safely and warmly exchange greetings.”
