[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] Dong-Eui Institute of Technology held the ‘10th Southeast Region CAM Technology Competition University and High School Division Awards Ceremony’ on the 24th at the Capri Room of Paradise Hotel in Busan.
The competition is a contest where university and high school students from the Southeast region of Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam compete in advanced machining skills using CAM (Computer-Aided Manufacturing).
Since 2013, Dong-Eui Institute of Technology has been hosting the competition annually in collaboration with Busan City and the Korea Federation of SMEs, aiming to digitalize the root industry and cultivate smart talent through industry-academia-research cooperation.
The competition was held on July 19th at Dong-Eui Institute of Technology, divided into university and high school divisions. In the university division, 55 students from universities in the Southeast region participated, fiercely competing in the mold core machining category. The high school division had 33 participants.
Through evaluations in two rounds, 23 university students and 20 high school students were selected as final awardees.
In the university division, the gold prize winners were sophomore Hong Soo-bin from Korea Polytechnic University Busan Campus, senior Kim Sung-soo from Pukyong National University, and sophomore Yang Won-young from Dong-Eui Institute of Technology.
The high school division gold prize winners were third-year students Kim Tae-hoon from Dong-Eui Technical High School, Hwang Dae-sung from Gyeongnam Technical High School, and Jung In-soo from Busan Mechanical Technical High School.
Marking the 10th anniversary of the competition this year, the event included not only the awards ceremony but also the presentation of merit plaques to related organizations, expert lectures, and congratulatory performances.
Through the presentation of merit plaques and other activities, the event encouraged those who contributed to the competition and the development of the root industry, taking time to prepare for a new leap forward.
At the merit plaque awards ceremony for related organizations, six representatives from industry-academia-research collaboration received honors: Executive Director Jang Jong-bae of Busan Gyeongnam Mold Industry Cooperative, Team Leader Kim Cha-seop of Busan City Manufacturing Innovation Division, Director Kim Ki-hoon of Korea Federation of SMEs, Professor Park Il-dong of Korea Polytechnic University Busan Campus, Teacher Park Soon-up of Busan Electronics Technical High School, and CEO Shin Jong-soo of Eunseong Square.
Following this, Dr. Yoon Jong-hoon from the Korea Aerospace Research Institute gave a special lecture on ‘Development of the Korean Launch Vehicle Nuri,’ followed by a congratulatory performance by master singer Park Sung-hee of the Busan Municipal Gugak Orchestra.
Professor Seo Young-ho of the Department of Digital Convergence Machinery said, “CAM is a core technology for smart factories in manufacturing sectors such as machinery, aerospace, mold, and shipbuilding, and its importance will increase further in the future. I am grateful to the universities, Busan City, institutions, and industry officials who have generously supported the competition to reach its 10th anniversary.”
Lee Soo-gyun, Chairman of the Busan Gyeongnam Mold Industry Cooperative, said, “The CAM competition, started in 2013 at the request of our industry, has continuously produced excellent young technical talents in the region and contributed to technological advancement. We celebrate the 10th anniversary of the competition and hope it will continue to develop in line with the advancement of the root industry and convergence technology.”
