According to the New York Times (NYT) on the 28th (local time), Musk stated on his Twitter the day before, "Countries around the world need to increase nuclear power," adding, "Shutting down nuclear power plants is crazy from a national security perspective and bad for the environment." When a netizen criticized environmental activists opposing nuclear power plant construction, Musk agreed, claiming that "some of (the environmental activists) are truly, sadly anti-human."
Musk, who identified himself as a proponent of nuclear power, previously stated in an interview with the business media outlet Business Insider in March, "Germany's shutdown of nuclear power plants is completely crazy," and "Nuclear plants should not be shut down, and those that have been closed should be reopened." Musk has publicly advocated for expanding nuclear power since the 2000s, saying that nuclear power is necessary until renewable energy such as solar power is fully established.
Business Insider analyzed that "Musk brought up the argument for expanding nuclear power from a security perspective amid the surge in oil and gas prices caused by Russia's invasion of Ukraine."
