The construction anchor robot by Samsung C&T and Daemyung GEC, which won the Minister's Award at the 2022 Smart Construction Challenge. The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 29th that 20 outstanding technologies were finally selected in the '2022 Smart Construction Challenge,' organized to support the activation of smart construction technology.
Now in its third year, the 'Smart Construction Challenge' is hosted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, with roles shared among the Korea Institute of Civil Engineering and Building Technology, Korea Land and Housing Corporation, Korea Expressway Corporation, Korea Rail Network Authority, National Agency for Safety Management, and the Korea Agency for Infrastructure Technology Advancement, each overseeing competitions by sector.
The competition was divided into nine categories: ① Smart Safety, ② Construction Automation in Complexes and Housing, ③ Smart Technology in Road Sector, ④ Design BIM in SOC sectors such as Railways, ⑤ BIM Use Live (Construction BIM), ⑥ National Safety Management (Construction and Facilities) Best Practice Contest, ⑦ Smart Construction Open Contest, ⑧ Smart Construction R&D Proposal Contest, and ⑨ Smart Construction Startup Idea Contest. Four new contest categories were added compared to the previous year to allow general public participation.
The 47 teams that advanced to the finals in the technology competition held presentations and demonstrations by sector from July 20 to 28 at various locations: smart technology in the road sector at the Korea Expressway Corporation headquarters, design BIM in SOC sectors such as railways at the Korea Rail Network Authority headquarters, and other sectors at KINTEX in Ilsan. Ultimately, 20 outstanding technologies were selected across the five technology competition categories.
Among the 20 outstanding technologies, the top technologies in each of the five categories that received the Minister’s Award will be given priority for testbed support to enable rapid real verification and field application. Various benefits will also be provided, such as exemption from LH certification new technology application procedures (if requirements are met).
In the open contest categories, 71 teams proposed various ideas and technologies, and through document evaluation and final presentations, a total of 24 outstanding cases and ideas were selected.
The top technologies and ideas awarded the Minister’s Award through the 2022 Smart Construction Challenge competition will be presented at the '2022 Smart Construction EXPO,' held from August 30.
This event will serve as a platform for communication across industries to activate smart construction technology and innovate the industrial ecosystem, as well as to share advanced technology and industry trends. It will be held for three days from Tuesday, August 30 to Thursday, September 1 at KINTEX in Ilsan.
Lee Sang-il, Director of Technology and Safety Policy at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, stated, "We will actively implement the smart construction activation plan announced last July and continue efforts and support to ensure that smart construction technology is rapidly established domestically and utilized in the field through various collaborations with related organizations such as the Smart Construction EXPO."
