Yugu Factory Water Purifier Production Line in Full Operation
Coway has started full operation of the water purifier production line at its Yugu factory located in Gongju-si, Chungnam, due to the popularity of the 'Icon Ice Water Purifier.' This surge in ice water purifier sales is attributed to the increased interest in premium home appliances that cool down the heat during this summer's heatwave.
According to Coway on the 29th, sales of ice water purifiers in July increased by 30% compared to the same period last year, driven by the early heatwave and the popularity of the new Icon Ice Water Purifier. Especially, the recently launched Coway Icon Ice Water Purifier continues to receive orders despite a sell-out frenzy where the stock quantity for this month was sold out early in the beginning of the month. A Coway representative said, "Due to the popularity of the Icon Ice Water Purifier, orders are pouring in to the point that stock is insufficient," adding, "Even though the water purifier production line has been running at full capacity since July, it is still challenging to meet the order volume."
The Icon Ice Water Purifier, launched by Coway in June, is a product that actively reflects consumer needs and has attracted great attention from customers looking for ice water purifiers this summer. To meet the demands of consumers who wanted to use ice water purifiers but found it burdensome to use them in narrow kitchens, the product size was significantly reduced. It is explained that the size was reduced by about 40% compared to existing Coway ice water purifiers, making it the smallest ice water purifier product in Korea.
Additionally, to satisfy the need for abundant ice, which is a major purchasing factor for ice water purifiers, innovative ice-making technology was introduced. The patented dual rapid ice-making technology was applied to greatly improve the ice production speed. As a result, the ice-making time per cycle is only about 12 minutes, producing up to approximately 600 pieces of ice daily, allowing the whole family to enjoy ice without shortage even in summer. Furthermore, the ice size can be selected according to consumer preference.
Also, the Coway Icon Ice Water Purifier produces hard ice that melts slowly, considering consumers' preference for ice that melts gradually when drinking. This is achieved through the 'Crystal Ice-Making System,' which generates periodic waves during the ice-making process to remove bubbles formed.
For consumers concerned about the hygiene of ice, the Icon Ice Water Purifier has significantly enhanced hygiene functions. This product is the first Coway ice water purifier to apply a quadruple UV sterilization system to the ice tray, ice storage, and ice faucet. Various additional features have expanded customer convenience. The ice-making stops during the user's set sleep time via the app to minimize noise, and the artificial intelligence (AI) smart diagnosis function monitors the device's status in real time and guides solutions when abnormalities are detected.
A Coway representative said, "The number of consumers looking for ice water purifiers has greatly increased this year, and thanks to that, the new Icon Ice Water Purifier is receiving a good response in the market," adding, "We plan to lead the water purifier market trend through the Icon Ice Water Purifier and continuously strengthen our leadership in the ice water purifier market."
