"Instead of Traditional Table Settings, Home Party Supplies Are Selling Well" Gmarket Analyzes Chuseok Shopping Trends

"Instead of Traditional Table Settings, Home Party Supplies Are Selling Well" Gmarket Analyzes Chuseok Shopping Trends Gmarket's Chuseok Shopping Trends.

[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jinyoung] Gmarket announced on the 29th that, based on an analysis of product sales during the week two weeks before Chuseok compared to the same period last year, demand for home party supplies has increased instead of traditional holiday items. This reflects a mindset of enjoying the holiday with family or acquaintances, rather than preparing for the holiday in the traditional sense, due to the short and early Chuseok.

First, sales of tableware and food related to home parties noticeably increased. Tableware and tableware items such as teapots (17%), Western-style tableware (42%), wine accessories (34%), and party table supplies (310%) received a good response. Processed foods suitable for home parties, such as pork ribs (185%), pizza (120%), French fries (105%), cheese sticks (100%), and salads (34%), also saw significant sales growth.

On the other hand, sales of representative holiday foods and ancestral rites items decreased. Sales of Songpyeon, a representative Chuseok food, dropped by 34% compared to last year, and Hangwa and Yugwa also decreased by 26%. Ritual supplies sold 19% less.

There was also demand for preparing various ‘home-cation’ items in advance. Sales of beam projector products and home theaters increased by 70% and 43%, respectively. Home karaoke machines sold 63% more, and gaming PCs, which are relatively high-priced, also saw a 29% increase in sales. Along with homewear (47%) that can be comfortably worn at home, sales of living goods such as interior accessories (17%) and aroma candles (12%) that create a cozy atmosphere also increased.

Many people planned outings instead of visiting relatives during the short holiday. Sales of theme park tickets such as amusement parks increased by 44% compared to last year before Chuseok, and sales of Jeju trips (38%) and domestic travel (26%) products also increased. Purchases of camping supplies such as tents increased by 37%, and travel bags (33%), travel kits (82%), and water play items (310%) also sold well.

A Gmarket official said, “Because Chuseok came about ten days earlier than last year and the period itself is short, the atmosphere perceives this Chuseok as another holiday following the summer vacation, which is reflected in the Chuseok shopping trends. By taking advantage of promotions held before Chuseok, you can compare and prepare various home party, home-cation, and travel-related products at more reasonable prices in advance.”

Demand for preparing various ‘home-cation’ items to enjoy while resting at home was also confirmed. Sales of beam projector products and home theaters, which allow for more effective viewing of videos or music at home, increased by 70% and 43%, respectively.
