Seoul Jung-gu Council Still Unable to Form Standing Committee Chair... Why?

[Seoul Autonomous District Council News] Two People Power Party Members Refuse to Accept Standing Committee Chairmanship... Council to Request Acceptance Again at 10 AM on the 29th

Seoul Jung-gu Council Still Unable to Form Standing Committee Chair... Why?

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] The Jung-gu Council of Seoul (Chairperson Gil Gi-young) convened the 1st plenary session of the 272nd extraordinary meeting on the 26th.

The 272nd extraordinary meeting was convened to elect the standing committee chairs (Council Operations, Administrative Health) as the organizational formation was not completed during the 271st extraordinary meeting held last July.

Chairperson Gil Gi-young stated in his opening remarks, "Due to the economic downturn, the pain in the local community is indescribable. I hope that during this 272nd extraordinary meeting, the nine Jung-gu Council members can unite their strength and wisdom to restore people's livelihoods and complete the organizational formation for the first half."

However, after the meeting began, four members of the People Power Party walked out, causing a temporary recess. The council officially requested the People Power Party members to accept the standing committee chair positions by 2 p.m. that day, but those members did not attend the resumed meeting at 2 p.m.

Accordingly, Chairperson Gil Gi-young said, "Rather than forcibly electing the chairs in this critical situation, I once again request the acceptance of the standing committee chair positions by 10 a.m. on the 29th to provide an opportunity for communication and to form a council that embraces members with differing opinions."

During this extraordinary meeting, the following were approved: ▲ Decision on the session period of the extraordinary meeting ▲ Decision on the agenda schedule ▲ Appointment of members to sign the minutes.

Meanwhile, the Jung-gu Council is experiencing conflict as Gil Gi-young, a member of the People Power Party, along with four Democratic Party members, appointed the chairperson, vice-chairperson, and standing committee chairs, while the four People Power Party members filed a provisional injunction with the court to suspend the chairperson's duties.
