Gumi City Opens '2022 Picture Book Festival' ... Community Collaboration Project with 'AGC Fine Techno Korea'

Opening Ceremony Held at Yangpo Library on August 26 at 5 PM

Library, Companies, Bookstores, Authors, and Volunteers Plan and Promote Event

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] Gumi City, Gyeongbuk Province, will hold the ‘2022 Gumi Picture Book Festival with AGC’ from August 26 to 28.

At the opening ceremony held at 5 p.m. on August 26 in the auditorium of Yangpo Library, about 100 citizens attended and participated in a book talk titled ‘Picture Book Authors@Gumi’ with picture book authors ‘Park Kyunghee’, ‘Park Jeongseop’, ‘Kim Jungseok’, and ‘Lee Sukhyeon’.

This event is a community-linked project jointly planned and promoted by Yangpo Library, Samil Bookstore, Picture Book Walk, and Geumo Kindergarten, with 40 million KRW sponsorship from ‘AGC Fine Techno Korea’ to spread picture book culture and nurture future talents.

Volunteers were recruited and trained by dividing roles into promotion, vehicle support, and book play operation to strengthen their capabilities. Also, the format of holding a four-person, four-style book festival at each location was changed so that invited authors moved between venues, allowing citizens to meet multiple authors.

Looking at the programs by location, at Yangpo Library, there will be a play performance ‘Amazing Three Words’ by author Kim Kyunghee, ‘Ttukttak Picture Book Making’ with author Kim Jungseok, ‘I Like Drawing Freely’, ‘Family Travel Book Making’ by author Lee Sukhyeon, ‘Maridabyeol Space Meditation Play’ by author Park Jeongseop, and volunteer-led book play programs including ‘It’s Okay, Bunny Board Game’, ‘Mixed-up Character Printmaking’, and ‘Making Marida Maracas’.

At Picture Book Walk, on the first day, programs include ‘Drawing Anything’ with author Kim Jungseok, ‘Writing Journey’ with author Lee Sukhyeon, ‘Making Poop Song’ with author Park Jeongseop, and ‘Dot Dot Picture Book’ with author Kim Kyunghee.

At Samil Bookstore, programs include ‘Marida Picture Book Band’ with author Park Jeongseop, ‘Anyone’s Restaurant, Got It’ with author Kim Kyunghee, ‘Four Authors, My Picture Book’ & participating authors’ autograph session, and ‘Participating Authors’ Picture Book Gallery’. At Geumo Kindergarten, author Kim Sanggeun will conduct ‘Mole’s Summer Trip’ and the happy picture book playground podcast ‘Chatting with Authors and Books’.

As voluntary participation programs, Yangpo Library offers ‘Studio Experience with Author Kim Jungseok, I’m Also a Picture Book Author’, autonomous picture book play ‘Dochi and Lila’s Library Trip’, and Samil Bookstore presents ‘Participating Authors’ Picture Book Gallery 2021-2022’.

The picture book play ‘Dochi and Lila’s Library Trip’, created by the picture book festival preparation committee and volunteers, consists of ‘Completing Monster Character Cards’, ‘It’s Nice to Come Out, Stamp Drawing’, ‘I’m Also a Picture Book Author Photo Zone’, ‘It’s Okay, Mister Hair Tuho Play’, ‘I Don’t Want to Play Ladder, Marida’, ‘No. Don’t Send Notes, Marida’, ‘Anyone’s Picture Book Restaurant’, ‘Fishing for a Cold Fish Play’, ‘Making with Discarded Picture Books! Oh, It’s Okay?’, ‘Coloring Picture Book Characters’, ‘Making a Menu Board for Anyone’s Restaurant’, and ‘Pretend Play at Anyone’s Restaurant’.
