World's No.1 Used Semiconductor Distributor 'Surplus Global' Settles in Yongin

[Asia Economy (Yongin) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] 'Surplus Global' has established its base in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province.

On the 26th, Yongin City announced that Surplus Global, the world's No.1 company in semiconductor used equipment distribution, established in 2000, which trades over 40,000 used semiconductor equipment with more than 4,000 companies including most semiconductor fabs (design) and equipment manufacturers worldwide, has completed its move into the Tongsam General Industrial Complex.

Surplus Global has created a semiconductor equipment cluster here with a six-story building (total floor area approximately 68,000㎡).

This cluster includes used equipment distribution facilities as well as a 3,600㎡ cleanroom where test wafers (semiconductor substrates) are produced and the performance of materials, parts, and equipment can be evaluated.

Yongin City is currently discussing the relocation of global semiconductor companies' refurbish centers, training centers, and demo (demonstration) centers, and expects investments worth approximately 600 billion KRW by the end of this year.

The city particularly expects that if semiconductor companies are attracted, cooperation in research and development and workforce training projects will become possible, and Surplus Global's semiconductor equipment cluster will serve as a testbed for domestic materials, parts, and equipment companies.

Lee Sang-il, Mayor of Yongin, emphasized, "I hope the Surplus Global semiconductor equipment cluster will serve as a testbed that domestic semiconductor companies can easily use," adding, "We will also try to expedite the development of Yongin Platform City, Yongin Semiconductor Cluster, and the 2nd Yongin Technovalley to build a solid semiconductor ecosystem."

Meanwhile, the Tongsam General Industrial Complex, located in Tongsam-ri, Namsa-eup, Cheoin-gu, Yongin City, began construction in 2016 and was developed with a site area of 49,000㎡ and an industrial facility site of 37,000㎡.
