Citizenship and Land Transactions... Com2Verse Moves the Real World into the Metaverse

[Asia Economy Reporter Kang Nahum] Com2uS's metaverse specialist company Com2verse has unveiled its metaverse business and development roadmap. The plan is to grow Com2verse into an ‘infrastructure (social production base)’ that participants create and complete together, leading the future global metaverse industry. Notably, architect Professor Yoon Hyunjoon, well known to the public from the TV variety show 'Alssulsinjap,' has joined Com2verse as CCO (Chief Creativity Officer) to assist with urban planning and spatial design within the metaverse.

Com2uS CEO Song Jaejoon said at the ‘Com2verse Media Day’ held on the 25th at the Conrad Hotel in Yeouido, Seoul, "The metaverse is essentially moving everything possible on the internet into an open-world virtual space," adding, "Com2uS is uniquely qualified to lead the global metaverse era by possessing the three key elements: technological capability to simultaneously accommodate numerous people in a 3D virtual space, a value chain that can provide diverse content, and a technical ecosystem that realizes decentralization and value distribution."

Aiming for an Open Metaverse Based on Web 3.0 Values

In April, Com2uS established the joint venture Com2verse together with its affiliates WYSIWYG Studios and NP, and is now actively pursuing all-in-one metaverse development.

In the metaverse, information, content, and services previously provided in 2D are arranged in 3D, and users can acquire them through avatars. Com2verse refers to this concept as ‘meta browsing.’ The focus is on building an open ecosystem where all participants create and complete the metaverse society together, rather than a structure led by a few entities.

Com2verse CEO Lee Kyungil explained, "A structure where existing suppliers hold all authority, including profit distribution and exclusive rights, would hinder ecosystem development in a Web 3.0-based society," adding, "Com2verse is an infrastructure in the form of an open ecosystem where participants freely build spaces and provide content and services." He also stated, "The goal is to decentralize to the extent that users hold ‘citizenship’ and participate in metaverse operation and policy decision systems."

"A Space Resembling Reality but Transcending It"

Com2verse applies the concept of ‘Islands’ as spatial units, with a total of nine ‘Islands’ forming a world. Each ‘Island’ will include buildings for services and content enjoyment, metaverse offices, roads, transportation, natural environments, and will expand into spaces for communities and general users.

Com2verse is designed with a public area open to all users and a private area consisting of purchased land and building spaces. In particular, it plans to support anyone in creating economic, social, and cultural activities through the infrastructure provided by Com2verse.

Hong Seungjun, head of Com2verse development, explained, "Com2verse space is composed of units called cells, blocks, and islands. One block consists of 100 cells, and one island consists of 900 blocks. The size of one island is approximately equivalent to 3,200 real-world soccer fields." He added, "To support large-scale user access, we will employ a new server framework technology called space scaling, and a patent application is currently underway."

At the event, Com2verse also announced the recruitment of Professor Yoon Hyunjoon from Hongik University’s College of Architecture and Urban Planning, known as an expert in domestic urban construction. Professor Yoon will join as Com2verse’s CCO (Chief Creativity Officer). In a video message, he expressed, "I am pleased to share my thoughts and experiences on space and cities with Com2verse," and added, "I want to create an ideal city without the constraints of reality together with Com2verse."

In addition to previously disclosed partners such as SK Networks, Kyowon Group, Kyobo Book Centre, and Hanmi Healthcare, Com2verse revealed the new partnership with KT. The strategy is to pursue various collaborative businesses linking KT’s existing operations with the metaverse.

CEO Kim stated, "The metaverse is still a white space," adding, "While South Korea previously benchmarked and developed businesses from advanced countries, now we will lead the new business domain of the metaverse proactively with many participants."
