Five Programs Established Including 'Yeongjo's Road' and 'Jeongjo's Road'
The 'Wangneung Cheonhaeng (王陵千行)', a program to explore and experience Joseon royal tombs, palaces, and local cultural resources, will resume next month. It is a program to visit historical sites with a professional guide. It was first operated in the first half of the year, with about 220 participants. The Cultural Heritage Administration's Office of Royal Palaces and Tombs will hold fourteen sessions in the second half (September 17 to November 14). Five programs have been prepared: 'Yeongjo's Path', 'Danjong's Path', 'The Path of Kings and Emperors', 'Jeongjo's Path', and 'The King's Forest Path'.
'Yeongjo's Path' explores the love of the Joseon royal family by visiting Seooreung in Goyang and Soryeongwon in Paju. Seooreung includes Hongneung, the tomb of Yeongjo's wife Queen Jeongseong, and Sugyeongwon, where Yeongjo's concubine Royal Consort Yeongbin Yi is buried. Soryeongwon is the resting place of Yeongjo's birth mother, Royal Consort Sukbin Choi. 'Danjong's Path' visits Jangneung in Yeongwol, Danjong's tomb, Cheongnyeongpo, and Gwanpungheon. 'The Path of Kings and Emperors' tours Gwangneung in Namyangju, the tomb of King Sejo, and Hongyureung in Namyangju, the tombs of Kings Gojong and Sunjong. 'Jeongjo's Path' is a course that visits Suwon Hwaseong Fortress, Hwaseong Haenggung Palace, and the tombs of Yeongneung and Geonneung in Hwaseong. 'The King's Forest Path' visits Donggureung in Guri and Gyeongbokgung Palace.
Participants can meditate in the forest of the Joseon royal tombs or enjoy musical performances. Some programs also allow visitors to see the burial chamber (the core space of the royal tomb with the burial mound), which is usually not open to the public. Each program can accommodate 20 to 40 participants. Anyone aged 7 or older can participate, and one person can register up to four people. The participation fee is 30,000 KRW for adults and 20,000 KRW for youth and children under 19. For more details, please refer to the Office of Royal Palaces and Tombs website.
