[Asia Economy (Daejeon) Reporter Jeong Il-woong] Daejeon City is deploying AI disinfection robots in subway stations to carry out disinfection activities.
On the 25th, the city announced that as part of the field demonstration of the '2022 Daejeon-type Service Robot Convergence Model Demonstration Project,' 10 AI disinfection robots will be actively deployed and operated in major subway stations.
This project, conducted with resident participation budget, is led by the city, with Daejeon Technopark as the dedicated agency and local robot company Lastech Co., Ltd. participating as a key company. The project has a budget of 400 million KRW.
The stations where the demonstration will take place are Daejeon Station, Seodaejeon Negeori Station, City Hall Station, Government Complex Station, and Yuseong Oncheon Station, where 8 AI disinfection robots will be deployed.
Additionally, one robot will be deployed each in the first-floor lobby of City Hall and the Daejeon Technopark Eoullim Plaza.
The robots to be deployed on site are KT Corporation's AI disinfection robots, customized and equipped with control and monitoring systems by Lastech, designed to suit the subway station environment.
The disinfection robots use a plasma method that is harmless to humans and sterilizes viruses by more than 99.9%, performing air purification and floor sterilization using UV light. During this process, Lastech will monitor and control the overall mission execution of the robots.
Kim Young-bin, Director of the Science and Industry Bureau of the city, said, "By deploying disinfection robots in subway stations with high foot traffic for continuous disinfection, we expect to contribute to the health and safety of citizens," and added, "Through this project, the city will strive to enhance the image of Daejeon as a leading economic and scientific city utilizing advanced robots and to promote the development of the robot industry."
