The victim died at the scene... Packed belongings and fled after returning home
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Byung-don] A taxi driver who hit and killed a citizen lying on a road in Incheon fled the scene, prompting the police to launch a manhunt.
On the 25th, the Michuhol Police Station in Incheon announced that they are pursuing taxi driver A (69) on charges of violating the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Crimes (hit-and-run causing death).
A is suspected of hitting victim B (54), who was lying on a road in Juan-dong, Michuhol-gu, Incheon, at around 1:35 a.m. that day and fleeing the scene. B was confirmed dead at the scene, and A reportedly called to report that a traffic accident had occurred.
Police who responded to a witness report checked A’s previous call records to identify the taxi number and personal information, and found A’s taxi in the underground parking lot of his residence.
Through the building’s closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage, police confirmed that A returned home, packed his belongings, and left. They are tracking A based on his escape route and mobile phone usage records.
A police official said, "A did make a report, but did not provide accurate details of the accident and the call was disconnected midway. We are still investigating why the victim was lying on the road."
