Saemaeul Geumgo Faces Gender Discrimination Abuse Controversy "Investigation Launched... Eradicating Workplace Harassment"

[Asia Economy Reporter Bu Aeri] The National Credit Union Federation of Korea (Saemaeul Geumgo Central Association) stated on the 24th that it will "thoroughly ascertain the facts and take necessary measures" regarding the power abuse controversy.

The Saemaeul Geumgo Central Association explained this in a statement released that day, saying that investigations have begun through the dedicated grievance handling department and the inspection department.

According to Workplace Power Abuse 119 and others on the same day, A, who joined a Saemaeul Geumgo in Namwon in 2020, was reportedly instructed to cook, wash dishes, and do laundry, sparking a power abuse controversy. A claimed that discriminatory power abuse continued, such as making female employees cook meals at the Saemaeul Geumgo.

The Saemaeul Geumgo Central Association recently established a ‘Strict Management Policy on Workplace Harassment’ and emphasized eradicating ‘workplace harassment’ through special ethics management training for credit union executives, building a computerized system for grievance monitoring, and strengthening dedicated organizations for workplace harassment.

A representative of the Saemaeul Geumgo Central Association added, "In the event of workplace harassment, we will reestablish awareness of workplace harassment along with criminal liability such as punishment cases."
