Yongsan History Museum MI Wins Red Dot Design Award

Brand & Communication Design 2022 Partial Main Award Winner & Visualization of the Shared Initial Consonants 'ㅇ ㅅ' of 'Yongsan' and the Museum's Core Content 'History'

Yongsan History Museum MI Wins Red Dot Design Award

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] Yongsan-gu (Mayor Park Hee-young) announced that the Yongsan History Museum MI (Museum Identity) won the main prize in the '2022 Red Dot Design Award Brand & Communication Design' category.

The Red Dot Design Award is an international design competition hosted by the Design Center of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, and is considered one of the world's top three design awards along with the iF Design Award (Germany) and IDEA (USA). Since awarding its first winner in 1955, it has annually selected and honored creative and innovative designs.

The Yongsan History Museum MI is based on the design concept 'Beyond Boundaries, Embracing Yongsan (TIMEless&SPACEless)' and expresses the common initial consonants 'ㅇ, ㅅ' of 'Yongsan' and its core content 'history.'

The symbol shape that opens left and right represents a frame containing Yongsan's diverse history, symbolizing the identity of the Yongsan History Museum. The various colors applied to the MI also show the symbolism of the museum. Red signifies 'a dynamic space where citizens gather,' yellow represents 'Yongsan's bright future,' green means 'a place where time, space, and people coexist,' and purple indicates 'a creative space beyond boundaries.'

The Yongsan History Museum serves as the control tower for local history projects and was renovated from the Railway Hospital built in 1928 (Registered Cultural Heritage No. 428), opening on March 23. It features the preservation of red bricks and internal traces to maximize the value of modern architecture. Over 4,000 artifacts and exhibits, including those purchased publicly by the district office and donated by the public and local embassies, are displayed here.

The district utilizes the MI for promoting the Yongsan History Museum through the museum website, signage, various souvenirs, and printed materials. The plan is to further strengthen the competitiveness of Yongsan as a cultural tourism city by enhancing the brand image of the Yongsan History Museum.

Park Hee-young, Mayor of Yongsan-gu, said, "This award recognizes that the Yongsan History Museum MI well expresses the museum's identity," and added, "We will build a differentiated museum image by appropriately utilizing the MI."
