[Asia Economy Reporter Yoon Seul-gi] A full-term pregnant woman who was unable to find a maternity hospital due to concerns about COVID-19 infection safely gave birth inside a 119 ambulance with the help of paramedics.

According to the Gangwon Fire Headquarters on the 19th, at around 3:38 a.m. the previous day in Sokcho, Ms. A (24), who was 38 weeks pregnant, called 119 for help as her delivery was imminent.

Paramedics from the Sokcho Fire Station quickly responded to transport her, but they could not find a hospital in Sokcho or the Yeongdong region that could accept Ms. A. This was because her husband had tested positive for COVID-19, raising concerns about infection if she was admitted.

Therefore, they expanded their search beyond Yeongseo to other cities and provinces to find a hospital capable of delivery and even prepared a helicopter for long-distance transport.

Fortunately, with the plan for a cesarean section rather than natural delivery, Gangneung Asan Hospital agreed to accept Ms. A, and they headed to the hospital. However, at around 6:03 a.m., Ms. A gave birth to a healthy baby boy during transport. Both Ms. A and the baby were reported to be in good health.
