[Asia Economy Culture Intern Reporter Young] Hwang Hana (34), the granddaughter of the founder of Namyang Dairy Products who is currently incarcerated for drug use, is reportedly revealing her feelings by directly creating a webtoon together with her father, Hwang Jaepil.
According to the Naver Webtoon 'Challenge Comics' website on the 19th, a webtoon titled '2045 (Eoneu Byeol DNA)' has been serialized since the 13th of last month. Challenge Comics is a platform where anyone, including amateur artists, can upload webtoons and have the chance for official serialization based on user selection.
The webtoon '2045 (Eoneu Byeol DNA)' features Hwang Jaepil writing the story and Hwang Hana drawing the illustrations, with three episodes currently released. It depicts a story set in the year 2045 after artificial intelligence (AI) surpasses human imagination.
Hwang Jaepil wrote on his Instagram, "What kind of father would be needed for a daughter who is losing even the meaning of life through harsh trials and errors? Although the environment only has paper and a mechanical pencil, my daughter started drawing. Seeing the drawings occasionally enclosed in letters made me want to challenge webtoons with my daughter."
He continued, "Since she showed talent in music and art, about a year ago I cautiously asked her by letter if she would try drawing again," explaining the reason for starting the webtoon. He also said, "I lightly adapted the 300-page 'Singijeom' (title of the storyboard) I wrote nine years ago to fit the webtoon format and sent it to my daughter by mail," and explained the serialization process: "My daughter reads the storyboard I sent, refers to the enclosed images, draws each panel according to the story, and sends it back to me by mail."
