[Asia Economy (Yongin) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province opened a newly installed pedestrian bridge in Dongbaek Lake Park, 843 Jung-dong, Giheung-gu, to the public on the 16th.
Yongin City announced on the 19th that the existing wooden deck was aging and low in height, causing flooding during heavy rain, so it was urgently necessary to improve it by installing a new pedestrian bridge.
Accordingly, the city demolished the old wooden deck in June last year and began construction of an arch-shaped stone deck, completing the work on the 5th of this month.
The city invested 800 million KRW in this project, including 500 million KRW from the Gyeonggi Province Special Adjustment Grant secured in 2020 and 300 million KRW from the city budget.
The pedestrian bridge was installed across the lake at the southern lower part of the park's walking trail. It is 3 meters wide and 45 meters long, and to enhance structural safety, the 'steel pipe girder' method was applied, which uses a steel structure with a stone veneer design.
A city official said, "We installed the new pedestrian bridge so that citizens can use Dongbaek Lake Park safely and comfortably," adding, "We will continue to expand rest facilities to ensure no inconvenience in park use."
Dongbaek Lake Park covers a total area of 62,000 square meters and features well-developed walking trails around the lake, as well as facilities such as an outdoor stage, musical fountain, and waterside deck, making it one of the city's representative parks visited by many citizens as well as residents of the Dongbaek district.
