Yeosu Gwangyang Port Authority Establishes Air Environment Improvement Strategy for Yeosu Gwangyang Port

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] Yeosu Gwangyang Port Authority (President Park Seong-hyun, YGPA) announced on the 18th that it held the final report meeting for the study on establishing a mid- to long-term strategy to improve the air environment at Yeosu Gwangyang Port.

This study began in October 2021 and is scheduled to be completed by the end of August 2022. It was promoted to identify emissions by source within Yeosu Gwangyang Port and to prepare mid- to long-term strategies and continuous implementation plans for improving the air environment.

The final report meeting was conducted with the report by Dr. Park Geon-jin of EILab Co., Ltd., the executing agency, attended by about 30 people including Jeollanam-do Province, Yeosu City, Gwangyang City, and operators of the Gwangyang Port container terminal.

YGPA set the vision and goals for improving the air environment of Yeosu Gwangyang Port by reflecting the results of the study and the national air pollutant reduction targets, and derived four promotion strategies and 31 detailed promotion tasks.

The four promotion strategies are ▲ Establishment of management and support systems based on cooperative governance ▲ Management of emission sources by sector and energy transition ▲ Strengthening digital capabilities through the creation of a data ecosystem ▲ Realization of social value based on public consensus.

In addition, to achieve these, internal implementation departments and promotion schedules were designated to secure execution power.

YGPA plans to faithfully carry out detailed promotion tasks such as eco-friendly and low-pollution conversion of cargo handling equipment by collecting additional opinions derived from this final report meeting.

President Park Seong-hyun said, “We will do our best to operate an environmentally friendly port through cooperation with local governments and the private sector to promote a sustainable port.”
