Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju Holds Meeting on Enactment of Food Waste Recycling Facility Ordinance

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] The Gwangsan District Council of Gwangju Metropolitan City (Chairman Kim Taewan) announced on the 18th that it held a meeting to establish the "Ordinance on Resident Support for Areas Affected by the Food Waste Resource Recovery Facility in Gwangsan District, Gwangju Metropolitan City."

Presided over by Councilor Park Hyunseok, about 10 people including Councilors Jeong Jaebong and Yang Manju, related officials, and residents of the affected areas attended the meeting, engaging in in-depth discussions on the details of the ordinance and listening to various opinions from the residents.

The First Food Waste Resource Recovery Facility is a public food waste treatment facility located in the Donggok-dong area of Gwangsan District, where complaints and inconveniences from nearby residents due to odor have been continuously raised.

Residents attending the meeting expressed difficulties caused by the odor from the facility and emphasized that the establishment of the ordinance is essential as a basis for support to improve the quality of life of residents in the affected areas.

The participants agreed on the purpose and intent of the ordinance, stating, "Although there is a city-level ordinance that supports residents in surrounding areas by allocating part of the reduced fee for food waste disposal, there was no detailed district ordinance regarding the specific areas and scope of support projects, which caused dissatisfaction with compensation."

Councilor Park Hyunseok said, "I deeply understand how much inconvenience and difficulty this facility causes to the daily lives of residents living in the surrounding areas," and added, "We will actively communicate and consult with the executive branch and related institutions to enact the ordinance so that residents can lead better daily lives."

Meanwhile, Councilor Park plans to actively reflect the opinions raised at this meeting and propose the ordinance at the 274th 1st regular session next month.
